Identity Guidelines (so far)

As this is a brand I am creating, I have developed a set of guidelines to accompany, in a similar style to the already existing e4 and Channel 4 guidelines, but obviously in keeping with Your 4.

Refining Final Logo

Just refining the type as I still felt something wasn't quite right...
Below is an example of how I have adjusted the horizontal scale, the first is the original at 100% and it increases by 10 in each time. I actually think the original is better here.

This is adjustment in the tracking as in the beginning stages I felt at some point the letters would have to be altered so they are further apart, worth a try but sticking with the original.

Finally is the kerning, I am glad I decided to experiment with this, in particular I am looking between the 'e' and 'n' as in my original logo I felt it looked a bit confusing. Bearing in mind with this type it is the original, the logo has a thicker stroke. Instantly with the thinner writing it looks clearer. The first one is the original, the last one has been adjusted to 100 and the ornament on the n is now more visible.
Showing how it effects the logo:
1) Original logo
2) Stripped back to original thickness of type and the kerning has been adjusted.
3) Adding colour.
4) Adding the thicker stroke.
5) Further adjusting the kerning as the 4th one returned to its indistinguishable state.

My final logo, again, will be the third one.

Final 2

These are my final 2 logos... It's really hard to choose between as they are both quite good, however, if I am honest I prefer the right, as I like the green being first in the line - it seems to interact better with the type too.

Further Development of Logo

Now I have picked the final design, I need to pick a colour for the type, black looks fine but I would like to try some other colours  from my selected colour scheme. At first, I felt the black was too harsh...

This next batch have the order of the colours reversed, it makes a hell of a difference!

Shortlist of Logos

After 'sleeping on it' I have decided to narrow down my logos, then I can make an informed decision on the final choice.

I still like the square variations, although today, with fresh eyes I am thinking it looks a bit corporate, I think I was definitely correct in trying out more organic rounded shapes.

This looks much better, also I like how the shapes are closer together, there is less white, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but with the thin stroke of the type I think this looks more effective. I definitely prefer the blue text, for some reason the green from above didn't seem to look right.

After the previous logos I didn't concentrate so much on the colour of the type, I decided to focus on the image more. I am I do like how the image follows the text which aids reading.

Here, I combined the circles with the colours in a line. This is beginning to look much more refined.

.I have reduced the double line to a single line. I think we may have a final resolution for the logo here...

Screen Guidelines

The logo should only ever be in this position during programmes and music videos. At the commercial break it will disappear.

Channel Logo Placement

After choosing my logos, I have used 2 videos by Magnetic Man as the basis for placing my logo. It almost feels real!! To me, anyway...

Choosing the Channel Logo

After finally choosing a logo for the HD channel, I applied the +1 with the same format to keep it uniform.

Infrasonic HD Logo Variations

Testing out different fonts for the HD logo, I was unsure whether to use the Electronic Highway Sign font that I will be using throughout the copy associated with the logo.

Poster Layouts for Logo

Accompanying Fonts for Logo

Next is to pick a font to accompany my logo in advertisements and promotional material etc.

This is what I have narrowed down.

The first few fonts I looked at were typewriter style fonts apart from Impact (I just like it as it's bold and clear, and can be used at a small point size yet still be readable). I went for this typewriter style as I wanted a font that looked mechanical almost, but then decided I wanted the font to have some flow. I went too 'flowy' with Blackjack (bottom left), this isn't suitable. This lead me to graffiti styles, but after looking at my equalizer logo, I decided to hunt for a font that would compliment it e.g. something digital looking. My preferred fonts are Digital-7 and Electronic Highway Sign.

I will play around with both and see what works best.

Logo Colour Variations

After looking at the identity guidelines for the Channel 4 logo on my context blog, I thought it might be appropriate to set some guidelines for the use and reproduction of my logo, as part of my brief is to set out the creative direction.

The original background for my logo- the black really makes the colours advance.

This is an alternative colour that could work.

The grey works in the same way as the black.

This could be a suitable alternative.

Slightly unsure about this variation, but it could work.

The dark green is another option for the background.

A little unsure about this one due to the way the red seems to clash with it.
